Laughs And Birthday Cakes

I'd been explaining I was waiting until after my birthday to publish the next volume of The Voyage when Aurora suggested she should have Fauna start planning or making the cake. I'd burst out laughing at the idea because it took me by surprise so much, and Aurora had asked what was funny but had been unable to keep from laughing herself, and when I explained why I'd been laughing and assured her that I wasn't laughing at Fauna, Aurora told me Fauna wasn't the best cook.

I told Aurora that she didn't have to do it - but that if she did, I'd still appreciate it - and that it didn't have to be anything too ornate. When Aurora asked, "So it doesn't have to be 15 layers?", I replied, "No, no, no. I don't expect her to be Buddy Valastro."

Apparently, Aurora is familiar with Cake Boss (something my sister got me into) a bit herself, because she told me, "Oh, I think I've heard of him. He does make cakes, doesn't he?" I nodded and told her that he does - and that he has been a guest during the Food And Wine Festival in order to make the famous Carlo's Bakery cannoli for guests. As I told her, his daughter Sophia is quite the Princess admirer herself - and that once, he'd also filmed an episode of Cake Boss while visiting, and as a result, he'd done his version of a Cinderella Castle cake for Sophia's birthday at the Magic Kingdom. Aurora enjoyed hearing that and told me that she'd love to see the episode - as she said, perhaps Prince Phillip could show her.

Castles, Cannolis and Cartoon Characters is a Season 2 episode of Cake Boss filmed on location at Disney World during the Food And Wine Festival and is available on iTunes. Among the highlights are private meet-and-greets with Sophia, Ariel and Jasmine - not to mention the Food And Wine Festival, the construction of Buddy's Cinderella Castle cake at Port Orleans and the presentation at the Magic Kingdom.
